On Sunday, March 12, 2017 we started our Lenten Bible Study which focused on the first three chapters of Genesis.
Fr. Theophan offered two contemplative classes on the first two Saturday's of November.
One of the consequences of the fall is that we are out of touch with who we really are. We often have many false identities and motives. “Every man is a liar.” We hide from God, from others and from ourselves. In hiding from ourselves we often stuff, suppress or belittle our gut feelings about reality. At times, we need to believe our own propaganda to feel good about ourselves. We are so good at masking our true feelings that we are often unaware they truly exist. This class attempts to explain our tendency to not be who we really are with ourselves, others, and God.
The thought lives of Christians are a very important component of the spiritual life in Christ. In this class we discussed thoughts that accuse us. Accusing thoughts can be confusing, stifling and debilitating. We are not always sure where our thoughts come from and how to deal with them when they come. In this class we discuss how to “Learn to agree with your adversary quickly.”

Taste of St. Innocent, Barbeque and Bible event 2011 - 10/22/11On Saturday, October 22nd, St. Innocent Orthodox Church in Macon, GA held its first annual open house event called "A Taste of St. Innocent Orthodox Church." This event was not a fundraiser but rather an opportunity for the surrounding community to come and learn about Orthodoxy and experience our hospitality. Being that we are in the South, and it has been said that Macon is the "buckle" of the "Bible Belt", we decided to offer two irresistible treats to our surrounding community. We offered free, home made, real, southern style smoked barbeque and a talk given by Bp. Mark Maymon, on the History and formation of the Canon of Scripture. In short, "Barbecue and the Bible." We also gave educational church tours. We ended up serving over over 200 people. By God's grace, strength and direction we hope to build off of this first event so that we can begin to help people in our local community experience the beauty of our Orthodox faith and most importantly, the love and hospitality of our Lord.
