From East to West to East: One Woman's Discovery of the Ancient Christian Faith
After rejecting the Christianity of her
childhood, Frederica Mathewes-Green, noted author and National Public Radio
Commentator, looked for truth in all the world's religions. The poetry and
mysticism of Hinduism especially attracted her. On her honeymoon in Europe
her faith in eastern religion was shattered. Visiting a small church in
Ireland, Mathewes-Green met Christ. This encounter changed her. She and
her husband entered seminary in the Episcopal Church and this one time child
of the sixties counter-culture became a pastor's wife. Her spiritual
journey, however, was not finished. To discover the rest of the story, come
hear this moving testimony of how a rebel against Christianity came to be a
priest's wife in the oldest Christian church. Her story speaks to the
spiritual longing that many Americans feel. If you are a spiritual seeker
or know someone who is, this talk is for you.

Men and
Women, Alike and Different in Eastern Christianity
Christians have normally stressed that
men and women have distinct gender roles, much to the disappointment of
feminists. The Eastern Orthodox Church, however, has taken a different
approach that addresses the distinctions between men and women while
stressing how these are transcended in Christ. Come join us as
Frederica Mathews-Green, author of
Gender: Men, Women, Sex, Feminism, leads us in a provocative
discussion of how the Eastern Christian tradition views gender.
